Old photos of Skelmersdale

Aerial photo - Looking from Glenburn back to Skem

Here is a view from the mid 1960's looking back towards old Skem with 2 reservoirs on the right roughly where the Concourse is now, Glenburn School being built in the foreground. Above this and slightly to the left where the road bends is where the later Fox and Goose (see photo on pub page) was (now where Marie Currie Island is), further right is the bottom of Wigan Road with the Telephone Exchange above it with the High Street snaking its way to the top of the photo, and down the middle of the photo is where White Moss Colliery was, where the railway fed it (now Railway Road and its islands) and the railway sidings (excavated area just above Glenburn).
Compare this with the map page to see the reservoirs, the sidings, the later Fox and Goose and the bottom of Wigan Road (roughly where Slack Farm is shown).
