Old photos of Skelmersdale

Aerial photo - Old Skem and the railway

Here's one from a cutting showing the railway in the foreground with Skem Station to the left. Ormskirk Road runs in from the bottom left with the Railway Pub (now the Roundabout) and its bowling green to its rear. Also bottom centre is the old Merdale Factory with its chimney (originally the Orme Mill, later Callows then TPT workshops).
Runing lower left to upper right is Sandy Lane and the old Shoe Co factory on the far right (the large building). That's Marchbank Road leading straight up on the left with School Lane above it entering in from the left (note where it leads - into fields!)
Thats St Pauls left of centre above the last row of houses which would be Lancaster Crescent. Lastly note the surrounding countryside around the town - before the New Town was built!
