Bill's Book

Here are some memories of Bill Birchall of Weston-Super-Mare (a sprightly 85 year old Skemmer who remembers Old Skem up until he left at the age of 9 to Yorkshire) which he has very kindly donated to me for inclusion in this website.
These memories are in the form of stories which he tells me are 95% truth and 5% embelishment to make the story, and some poems he wrote with fond affection but one not quite so - on the New Town!

Stories:

Contents:

Chapter 1: "And lead us not into...."

Chapter 2: "Hear us when we cry to thee" - for..?

Chapter 3: "As I hear the sweet lark sing..."

Chapter 4: "And things are not what they seem"...again!

Chapter 5: The Brickcroft

Chapter 6: Humpty - Dumpty

Poems:

Contents:

Chapter 1: Boyhood .... Remembering "Bromilow Pads"

Chapter 2: Boy-days ....The Tawd
