Some if not most of these books are out of print or only available at local booksellers but most should be available at local libraries. I've tried to list the ISBN numbers and prices as I get hold of them.
Skelmersdale
- "Visions of the Past, Skelmersdale, Volume 1" by The Skelmersdale Heritage Society, this is a pictorial book of old photo's of Skelmersdale's past, available from the Skelmersdale Heritage Society - details on the websites index page.
- "The Pictorial history Of Skelmersdale" by George Orr, this is a new publication A5 size with many unseen photo's including artifacts like a White Moss railway ticket stub, Coat of Arms of Baron Skelmersdale with lineage, Brocks toy cap box and many more. This is available from Ottakar's Book Store in Ormskirk and Bluebells

- "The History Of Skelmersdale" by George Orr, this is out of print but it can be seen at the Skelmersdale Library.
- "The History Of Skelmersdale - 2nd edition (blue cover)" by George Orr, this is also recently out of print but possibly can be seen at the Skelmersdale Library.
- "The Light of Other Days" by Mary Cuckson, her memories of Skelmersdale in the twenties and onwards - a good read

- "The Skelmersdale Story" by The Rev Nigel Sands (if you can get hold of a copy!), first published in 1970 by The Ormskirk Advertiser Group and long out of print but an excellent read with plenty of sources quoted, this is possibly available at the Skelmersdale Library
- "Memories of Skelmersdale in the 20's and 30's" by Margaret Hodges, a booklet of poems and memories.
Available in the Skelmersdale Library but may soon be available to buy, I'll let you know here when I know.
Local area
- "A Short History Of Lathom", An excellent book covering Lathom House, it's occupants and their Dynasties, the Civil War and the Chapel, Burscough Priory and Lathom Park School. This is available from the Skelmersdale Library but it does not have an ISBN number, but I've seen it in the Ormskirk Book and Art Shop (see above) in paperback priced at £4.99.
- "Ormskirk in old picture postcards" by Mona Duggan, this is a small book of old pictures of Ormskirk and some of the local area dating from 1890 to 1930. I think it's out of print but available in libraries
