Old Postcards of Skelmersdale

Here are some old postcards of Skelmersdale. On the back most have 'Hutchinson's Chemist' printed on the back - did they have them made for them?
Many thanks to Peter Molyneux for the loan of his collection to provide most of these images.

Views around Skelmersdale This one shows some views around Skelmersdale and the surrounding area. In the centre is the old Town Hall, top left is the old Sefton's bridge (now gone) down Plough Lane which the Ormskirk to Skelmersdale railway ran over. Top right is a view down High Street, note the colliery in the distance (I presume White Moss Colliery), bottom right is Dicket's bridge which is still there and looking heading towards Ormskirk, and bottom left is the Tawd Bridge which is still there.

Views around Skelmersdale In this one the centre shows the Wesleyan Church (now gone) up Liverpool Road, top left shows the old Railway Station (also see postcard below), top right shows a view up Sandy Lane, bottom right shows both Seftons Bridges down Plough Lane, the one in the foreground is the one over Seftons Brook which is still there but the large one is now gone, and bottom left is a view down Dickets Bridge on the way to Ormskirk.

Views around Skelmersdale In this one the centre shows the interior of St Paul's Church, top left shows Cobbs Brow Bridge which is down Vale Lane, top right shows the old Mission Church (now gone), bottom right shows the Devils Landing bridge which has now been replaced, note the bare mounds which are now covered by trees now, and bottom left is St Richards Church down Liverpool Road.

Mission Church and Sunday School Here is another postcard showing the same view as the top right one above of the Mission Church and Sunday School, also with the Stanley Coronation Park gates (still there) on the right.

Skelmersdale Station This postcard is an excellent view of the old Skelmersdale Railway Station. See the building in the far corner on the left by the bridge? Well, the building behind it is the Railway Hotel which is now called the Roundabout Pub!

The Majestic Cinema Here are some winter scenes taken (I think) about 1941.
First the Majestic Cinema (now the Labour Club) opposite the top of Sandy Lane

The Town Hall Next we have the Town Hall at the bottom of Sandy Lane during the winter of 1941, note the sandbags around the building because of the War.

The Bandstand Here are a couple of the Stanley Coronation Park, the first one showing the Bandstand and some Gentlemen,

The Bandstand and Banana Lake and here the Bandstand and the Banana Lake.

Colour postcard and lastly here's a nice colour postcard.
