Nacanco

Hi, my Dad was John Ellison, born 1940 in Aughton and up until recently his family still lived in there family home which was the Summit at the top of Holborn Hill, aughton right opposite Christ Church, it is in fact where he is now buried, he sadly died on 1987 aged only 47.  He worked for Nacanco in Skelmersdale, I remember some of his old pals, Tommy Knox, Bob Hines but not many more, anybody have any photos or memories they can share with me?

Looking forward to anything you can tell me, thanks Sue

  1. HI SUE , JOHN WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF LOTS OF PEOPLE IN ORMSKIRK FOR MANY YEARS .WE WENT TO WIGAN ROAD SCHOOL TOGETHER AND LATER PLAYED SNOOKER AND CARDS AT THE INSTITUTE ON MOOR St .I THINK HE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE SAID HE ENJOYED HIS JOB AS A POSTMAN THE BEST AS HE LOVED TO TALK TO ANYONE HE MET.I DONT KNOW HOW HE EVER FINISHED HIS ROUND ..HE HAD AN UNMISTABLE WAY OF WALKING AND YOU COULD RECOGNISE HIM FROM QUITE A DISTANCE .HE WAS A LOVELY PERSON AND A SAD LOSS. HE TOLD ME ONCE HIS FAMILY OWNED SMALL SHIPS (COASTERS I THINK HE CALLED THEM) WHICH JUST WENT ROUND THE BRITISH ISLES. I LIVE IN ORMSKIRK TEL 578576 IF YOU FEEL LIKE RINGING YOUR WELCOME TO.. 2. Hi Ron, thanks for the lovely memories about my Dad. I visited my Dad’s grave yesterday as we were at Christ Church for a Christening and spent the afternoon in Aughton. I’ve probably met you if you are from Ormskirk, I met lots of Dad’s friends over the years. You don’t happen to have any old school photos do you? I don’t have many photos of him at all, thanks so much for getting back to me. He will be up there chuckling about what you wrote, he did certainly love to chat, didn’t he. Regards, Sue x

  3. sorry but i dont have any photos .I dont suppose people think about John a lot after so much time has passed but your notes have rekindled a lot of memories of him (ALL GOOD AND MOSTLY FUNNY) and i can see him in my mind as i think of him. Thanks for that..I try to think of others who would have known and spent time with him but sadly some have sadly joined him and others have moved away so i dont see many who are still about.
    REGARDS RON

  4. I just found an old photo of my Dad, summertime, I think it’s taken at Lathom Chapel, he has shorts on, brown as a berry and he’s carrying a book and a box of castellas – just how I remember him Ron. I’ll see if I can attach it for you, regards sue x

  5. Hi Ron, don’t think you will get this message on time but there is a group on Facebook, Ormskirk Bygone Times and they are having a little get together at Styles Bar at 10am – 12 noon on Monday 21 October, there will be photos, I don’t think there will be an awful lot of people there as it’s a new group and I think a lot of people are working. I’m planning on going so if you are about pop along and I’ll treat you to a cuppa and a biscuit, would be lovely to meet you and share some memories, Love Sue xx
